Overland Park, Kansas — July 19, 2017 — Netsmart announced today that it has acquired DeVero, a healthcare technology company that specializes in home healthcare and hospice. Netsmart provides electronic health records (EHRs), health information exchange, data analytics, mobile clinical and consumer engagement solutions for behavioral health, social services and post-acute communities.
This announcement comes nine months after Netsmart’s previous post-acute care tech vendor acquisition. (See HCTR, 10/26/16: “Netsmart Broadens LTPAC Reach With HealthMEDX Acquisition“) Netsmart had merged with Allscripts’ home health and hospice division the previous March (See HCTR, 3/30/16: “Allscripts Reinvests in Home Care“)
A company news release states that this acquisition “further advances the Netsmart home care offerings, reinforcing Netsmart as the technology platform of choice for post-acute care. With a proven track record of digitizing and integrating behavioral health with its physical health counterparts, Netsmart now extends that expertise and best practices into home care and long-term care. Following the Allscripts merger, Netsmart has significantly expanded its national health information exchange (HIE), which now connects more than 68,000 human services and post-acute provider organizations and more than 1 million individual providers.” [Details about the promise of this acquisition are provided by Netsmart’s CEO Mike Valentine and by DeVero CEO Joe Randesi. Background about the 2 companies and details on how they will work together are noted in the second half of this article. The article concludes with “Netsmart’s Letter to DeVero Users”–a letter by Mike Valentine assuring DeVero’s 57,000 users at 540 organizations of smooth coordination and collaboration between the 2 companies.]
“We’ve always had a strong, ongoing commitment to providing our clients with leading-edge clinical and business solutions, spefically designed for their communities,” said Netsmart CEO Mike Valentine. “The addition of DeVero to our family provides our home care clients with a full-featured, home care-specific, mobile clinical solution that will add even more capabilities for integration and automation across all care settings, and offers DeVero clients access to our HIE, analytics and billing solutions, among others.”
Netsmart stated that it will integrate the DeVero solution into its family of home care, long-term post-acute care and human services EHRs, as well as the Netsmart CareFabric® platform, enabling accelerated enhancements to the existing solution.
“We’ve spent the last decade developing a flexible healthcare solution that adapts to the constantly changing healthcare environment,” said DeVero CEO Joe Randesi. “We are thrilled that our clients will have an opportunity to expand upon the platform we’ve provided them to incorporate the Netsmart suite of solutions. Netsmart and DeVero both share a vision to connect all aspects of healthcare. The scalability and R&D resources Netsmart brings to the table will only enhance and advance our solutions for a pay-for-performance, value-based healthcare environment.”
Kindred Healthcare, (Nasdaq: KND) the largest home care provider in the U.S. and current DeVero client, points to Netsmart provider connections as a significant benefit of the acquisition that will accelerate and drive current and future business strategies.
“The convergence of the Netsmart and DeVero solutions will accelerate many of our strategies in providing home care services,” said Brandon Ballew, Kindred senior vice president and chief operating officer. “Kindred at Home believes that Netsmart’s integrated HIE, with more than one million connections to other providers and HIEs, will allow us to develop new integrated business models between our home care business and with other providers in the communities we serve, which will provide better care to our clients and provide Kindred with more efficient operations.”
Immediately, the July 19 news release added, DeVero clients can leverage the Netsmart OneTeam Managed Services. Currently used by hundreds of other Netsmart clients, OneTeam helps organizations get the most out of their investments with revenue cycle management services, hosting of all applications and desktop and device management.
“Our OneTeam services allow our clients to focus on their passion to deliver quality care while we take care of the technology, enterprise content and revenue cycle management,” said Valentine. With this acquisition, Netsmart will now serve more than 560,000 users at 25,000 organizations.
“Kindred is very excited to work with our new partners at Netsmart,” said Kindred CIO Charlie Wardrip. “After reviewing their solution strategy, we believe there is great alignment with Kindred’s corporate strategies. We are especially excited about the potential created by two leaders of the post-acute markets collaborating on innovations.”

Our common platform, CareFabric®, integrates seamlessly with the industry’s first-of-its-kind population management platform that uniquely focuses on community-based providers and supports transitions of care, bundles and value-based payment models. We are passionate about integrating care across all aspects of a community, which is why the Netsmart ecosystem provides more than an EHR by offering the largest national HIE in the post-acute community to connect post-acute, social services and behavioral health organizations with their health systems and community provider partners.
Our more than 560,000 users in more than 25,000 organizations across the U.S. work together with our more than 1,350 Netsmart associates to connect communities and information across the care spectrum. Our technology ensures comprehensive data flows between behavioral health; addiction treatment; intellectual and developmental disabilities; child and family services; public health; long-term/post-acute care; home health; hospice; palliative care; private duty and vital records, to ensure providers have consistent and reliable information at their fingertips when it is needed.
The only thing constant in healthcare is change. Netsmart brings significant expertise working with behavioral health, social services and post-acute care communities, as well as the complex state and federal billing requirements unique to these communities. More importantly, we understand the importance of clinical adoption; training and support; regulatory compliance; and the need to connect to the rest of healthcare.
Our solutions and services are built with these challenges in mind and are designed to solve them so our clients can focus on what they do best: provide quality care to their communities. Our clients are strong advocates for those who do not always have a voice, which is why Netsmart is dedicated to leading change within the industry by breaking down barriers to provide a person-centric and holistic view of each individual.

Netsmart’s Letter to DeVero Users
Dear DeVero Client,
I wanted to take this opportunity to welcome you to the Netsmart family and tell you a little bit about us and what you can expect over the next few months. First things first. Netsmart has been focused on providing an integrated technology platform for home care, long-term care and behavioral health as part of our broad community care strategy for almost 50 years. We’ve created the first population health management platform for post-acute, supporting transitions of care, bundles and value-based payment models.
Over the last year and a half, we’ve been accelerating and expanding our innovations in the post-acute space with our merger with Allscripts Homecare and the acquisition of HealthMEDX. Netsmart now serves more than 560,000 users at 25,000 organizations and more than 25 million individuals. Welcome to an incredible and collaborative community! We strive to learn from each other every day and we are thrilled you are bringing your unique expertise to the conversation. We value our clients’ input and suggestions and welcome feedback on our solutions, features and functionality.
So what does all of this mean for you? Well, immediately, it’s business as usual. You’ll continue to work with your DeVero contact as we make the transition as seamless as possible. In the very near future, we will be integrating the DeVero solution into the Netsmart EHR platform, including the Netsmart CareFabric, which will allow us to accelerate solution enhancements and give you access to things like integrated billing, health information exchange, integration/connectivity services, care coordination and care management platforms, data analytics and consumer engagement technologies. In addition, our OneTeam Managed Services group can ensure you get the most out of your technology investment through enhanced revenue cycle management and improved scheduling.
As I mentioned before, we have an amazing client community that values collaboration and idea sharing. Our next annual CONNECTIONS client conference will be in April 2018, and we hope to see you there. In the meantime, be on the lookout for webinars, regional conferences and other opportunities to connect and network with the Netsmart community.
Welcome to Netsmart!
